After days of moorings and minimal facilities it was time for some
shore and housekeeping time. I did laundry, and we shopped in the
town, before mid afternoon when we had enough water over the cill to
leave. The Tidemill is not a cheap marina for visitors, but their
situation dictates a 24 hour (high water to high water) policy rather
than “leave by noon” as most marinas, so it was 15:25 before we
pottered over the cill and out to head back down the Deben.
Unlike yesterday there was almost no wind, so our trip down river
was done under engine. We did try to sail once we cleared the
entrance channel, but the wind was too light, and the engine soon
went back on.
We were heading for Hamford Water in the Walton Backwaters, and
reached it just as it was getting dark. We picked our spot, and
dropped the anchor at 21:15. There were about 4 other boats in the
anchorage, but it was not crowded, and we had a peaceful night.
